  • dc.description.abstract Translating/nWilliam Gibson /nmeans/nto deepen in/nto/nthe literary universe of one of the /nmost /nsignificant/nfigures /nin/nthe/nscience fiction genre/n. Nowadays, it is not possible to /nconceive /nneither/ncyberpunk /nnor/ncontemporary/nscience fiction without the contribution /nof this prolific American author. /nGibson/n’s vast /noeuvre/nincludes/n12 novels, several short /nstories and/na wide range of literary works/nincluding fiction and non/n-/nfiction /ncollaborations, TV and movie scripts and an autobiographic/nal/ndocumentary. Being /nregarded as/nthe/n‘father of cyberpunk’ and /ncoining the word /ncyberspace/nto describe /na /nreality which proved /nitself utterly visionary/nare two of the most significant /nachievements of this creative and versatile author. This paper presents/nthe translation /ninto Spanish of/nthree of Gibson’s short stories/n./nEach translation is commented using /nfootnotes in order to clar/nify complex translation, cultural or conceptual aspects./nSkinner’s Room/nis a short /nfiction/nwhose nature is /neminently /nnarrative;/nThirteen Views of /na/nCardboard City/ndisplays all the descriptive strength /nof some detailed instruction/nto /ndraw /na/nstoryboard/nin th/ne most accurate way/n, and /nCyber Claus/npresents most of the /nelements that can be usually found in science fiction within the lines of a /nChristmas /nflash fiction/n./nDue bot/nh to the characteristics and/nto/nthe very nature of each text, they /nform a representative sample of /nGibso/nn’s rich and complex work. /nThus,/nthese/ntranslations/nalso/nprovide/nan overview of /nthe challenge that conveying/nthe powerful /ncomplexity of/nGibson’s universe in a language other than Engli/nsh may pose for a/nny/ntranslator.
