dc.description.abstract This article offers a comparative analysis of the poetic reception of T. S. Eliot, Marianne Moore and Edna St. Vincent Millay from the standpoint of their differences in centrality-periphery in American Modernism. The study begins with a quantitative analysis of the printed editions of their books published in English and Spanish between 1912 and 2012, comparing the North American and British cultural system with that of Latin America and Spain, both of which are part of a global literary system. It then moves on to a qualitative analysis of a particular work by each poet: Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, Moore’s Complete Poems, and the different editions of Millay’s Selected Poems. This transnational diachronic study applies concepts borrowed from the sociology of translation as a means to identify the factors that may have influenced the uneven reception of these three exponents of American Modernism.
