dc.description.abstract Die Arbeit gehört zum relativ neuen Bereich der Wahrnehmungsdialektologie. Sie befasst sich mit den verschiedenen Dialekten, die im Raum des ehemaligen Großherzogtums Baden gesprochen werden und einer Studie über die Wahrnehmung des Begriffes Badisch, die die Bevölkerung von diesem Gebiet darstellt.
dc.description.abstract Perceptual dialectology has being intensively studied over the last decades, also in the/ncase of German dialects. It describes the perception of a non-linguist regarding several/naspects of dialects (linguistic and non-linguistic, such as identity through dialect). As/npart of this field, in this paper a particular case will be analyzed. It is said that in the/nformer kingdom of Baden, in the South-West of Germany, a dialect called Badisch is/nspoken. However, Badisch is just a generic term of politic origin that describes all the/ndialects spoken in that area, which are actually three: Oberrheinalemannisch,/nBodenseealemannisch und Hochalemannisch. The main goal of this project is to find/nout whether the inhabitants of Baden actually believe that Badisch is a dialect or they/nknow it is just a term. To achieve it, a survey has been carried out by Internet. The/nparticipants were also asked about personal information like age, field of studies/work/nand languages they spoke, in order to see if these variables play a role. Moreover, they/nhad to name their specific region and the dialect spoken there. Results show that only 2/nevery 10 of the responders know about Badisch being just a word, while a third thinks/nBadisch is actually a dialect or language. Very few people can say the scientific name of/ntheir area’s dialect, whereas they speak about the feeling of belonging it involves and/nare worried about its future. It is outstanding that people’s perception, in most cases,/ndoes not match the scientific one.
