¿Pues no va y me dice: “ya te las apañarás”? ¡Pero si yo no le pedí ayuda!/nTé el castellà partícules modals?

Abstract

Compared to the literature on modal particles in languages like German, not many authors have/nstudied modal particles in Romance languages, and even fewer have approached them in Spanish./nIn this paper we base our analysis of the role of some Spanish units (pues, pero, ya and porque) on/nprevious studies and on a list of features that modal particles should present according to different/nauthors. Our conclusions show that, contrary to most of the Spanish literature, in which these units/nhave traditionally been classified as discourse markers, some of the uses we take into consideration/ncan be labeled as modal particles. Even though these results should be supported and deepened by/nfuture research, our aim is to contribute to the existing line of research on modal particles in/nRomance languages (within the limits of this study) and to improve understanding of the way in/nwhich these linguistic elements are used by the speakers.
