Resum
The translation process between a pair of languages in contact, such as Spanish and Catalan, is of great interest due to the fact that each language has different features even if they seem very similar. Translators must take these characteristics into account in order to not commit interferences, a common mistake between professionals that alternate these two languages constantly as they have a high level in both of them. The aim of the current paper is to protect these languages, Spanish and Catalan, in their genuine form and to improve bilingualism. To do so, a translation from Spanish into Catalan of the Spanish novel Agujas de papel by Marta Gracia Pons is proposed, so as to see the translation strategies used and the genuine solutions suggested. In general, a domestication strategy has been adopted in order to avoid interferences and to adapt the translation project to the target language and audience. Moreover, by a general analysis of the most important linguistic and traductological aspects it will be shown how Spanish and Catalan differ from each other and how these contrasts determine the translation process. Dictionaries and other sources of information have been useful to solve any problem encountered when translating. This work can help Translation students and Spanish and Catalan learners to be more aware of some of the most conflictive features of both languages and to know how to use them properly.Descripció
