- dc.description.abstract Translating implies making several changes in order to reach the new target audience. In audiovisual translation there are additional things that must be taken into account, such as the image on the screen and the speaker's appearance. It is even more complicated when humour has to be translatcd, and even more so if you have to reflect characters specific characteristics, such as the way they talk and express themselves. ln White Chicks there are a large number of cultural references, and it is difficult to discern which ones would be recognized by the new target audience. The mail goal of this article is to analyze how humour, cultural references and the idiosyncrasies of two posh girls have been transferred from English into Spanish. In orcler to reflect this, the dubbing and subtitles of 18 fragments of the film have been analyzed, taking into account the previous related information presented in the first part of the paper. Different translation strategies have been stuclied and it has been proven that literal translation is the most common strategy when subtitling, and adaptation the most used when dubbing. In some cases, a new solution has been suggested. After that, the dubbed version of some of these fragments is compared with the first version proposed by the translator and the second version from the adjuster. This way, the changes in this procedure and the differences of the versions are shown. In short, this paper details how funny comments and jokes in English can also be comical in Spanish when dubbed, but not so funny when subtitled, since hearing the voice of the speaker restricts the possibilities of creativity during translation.en
