Resum
One issue of current social and legal interest is gestational surrogacy. There are mainly two points of view about this assisted reproductive technology: the legalization and the prohibition. As this is a controversial matter, about which there is a lack of information in the translation field, particularly between English and Catalan, this paper deals with the translation into Catalan of the Louisiana Statute regulating gestational surrogacy. Therefore, the principal objective is to provide a translation into Catalan of this Statute, together with a discussion approaching the most frequent translation problems of this text and of the legal language in general. In addition, this translation has to be written in accordance with all linguistic features of legal Catalan language model. The methodology used for this project is based on a context research, and of the lexical and non-lexical problems of the source text. This research is carried out on specialised dictionaries, as well as on specialised legal books and resource texts. In relation to the results, all the objectives are successfully accomplished and in the discussion the main translation problems are explained, which are: macrostructure, legal Catalan language model, terminology, typical legal verbs (shall and may) and proper names of institutions and of legal documents. Finally, the conclusions offer an analysis of the paper as a whole and, at the end, a request to linguistic experts for having more specialised resources in Catalan is made, since the current ones are outdated.Descripció
