  • Abstract

This paper presents a framework that enables/ncharacterizing analytically the spectral efficiency achievable by/nD2D (device-to-device) communication integrated with a cellular/nnetwork. This framework is based on a stochastic geometry/nformulation with a novel approach to the modeling of interference/nand with the added possibility of incorporating exclusion/nregions to protect cellular receivers from excessive interference/nfrom active D2D transmitters. To illustrate the potential of the/nframework, a number of examples are provided. These examples/nconfirm the potential of D2D communication in situations of/nstrong traffic locality as well as the effectiveness of properly/nsized exclusion regions.
