- dc.description.abstract The chanson is a well-studied genre by the scholars of music of the Renaissance, but the act of translating it has been an exercise rarely carried out in the translation history. In this paper we have undertook the translation of three French Renaissance chansons parisiennes: Tant que vivray en aage florissant, Vous perdez temps de me dire mal d’elle and Douce memoire, en plaisir consomée. We have translated them into Catalan by taking into account the characteristics of the poems and the features of the music that gives them voice: we had to understand the musical notation of the sixteenth century and to identify the musical phrasing of the four voices of each chanson. Moreover, we had to analyze the original texts of the three chansons keeping in mind the rhyme, the syllabic meter and the accentual scheme of each line. Finally, the specifications of the language of the moyen français have been another important item. Therefore, we have introduced this paper with a theoretical context. Following this introduction, we find the heart of the paper, the Catalan translation adapted to the music of the three chansons that respond to a hypothetical assignment: the celebration of a concert dedicated to the Renaissance in the Municipal Conservatory of Barcelona. Later, we give an exemplifying explanation of the main translation problems of the chansons. This paper shows that when translating a text in relation with music, the translator must take into account a lot of circumstances concerning the music genre and the poems.en
