Abstract

We create a simulation of one Spanish broadcast channel wants to show a Catalan TV sitcom, called Plats bruts, that was released in 1999 but the channel wants to be adapted and updated. This is an approximation to the audiovisual translation, but not a complete audiovisual work. The goal of the translation is not to adapt to the actor’s mouth for dub. The main objective of this paper is translate the chapter to Catalan into Spanish. To reach that objective, there are some important points to manage. Firstly, it requires to adapt all the cultural references of Catalan society into Spanish society. Secondly, translate the informal speech of the original version and, if it is necessary because the scene needs it, create new dialogues or situations to generate informal speeches. Thirdly, there are some points of the translation that it should be adapted because of the historical context. To do this, we have analysed all the chapter and marked all the contents that must be changed or adapted. We are focused in the informal speech and we search information about this kind of language and how to translate it. The results are positive, because we consider that the translation has a similar humour if we compare it with the original. And after all, the model that we have translated it could be the first step to broadcast the sitcom in Spain.
