Resum
Multilingualism is a growing phenomenon that can be found nowadays in audiovisual products as a reflection of our multicultural modern society. That is why most translators have to face texts that not only involve doing a translation from one language to another, they have to cope with scripts that imply working with two or more source languages and decide how many languages to include in the target text. Moreover, when a translator has to deal with this type of audiovisual projects, s/he has to carry out a translation specifically suited for a dubbing or subtitling modality. The primary aim of this study is to analyze how audiovisual multilingualism in fiction can be translated for dubbing, focusing on the research that has been done before and through a case study of the multilingual comedy-drama series Orange Is the New Black. Due to the earlier contributions, on which the analysis is based, this essay can contribute with examples from specific translations solving dialogue problems caused by the presence of multiple languages in the source text. In addition, in most cases, one of the second source languages is the same as the target language. Furthermore, this dissertation demonstrates why and in what way languages and cultural references are closely linked. In consequence, it is very important to preserve the multilingualism when it is an essential part of a production and the fact that translators must transfer the multilingual source text as faithfully as possible or at least, compensate the linguistic losses.Descripció
