En aquest treball s’analitzen tres eines de traducció automàtica gratuïtes per tal de demostrar fins a quin punt és necessària la figura d’un traductor humà a l’hora de traduir i editar textos professionals, fins i tot entre llengües molt properes.
The main purpose of this essay is to show that, even if we can count on some automatic machines for translating, there will always be the need of having an actual translator or a copy editor to guarantee the quality of a text created to be published. This paper is based on an actual magazine, which did not exist before starting the paper, and it will try to explain the process of creation and correction of the texts that can be found in it. It will also try to show the utility of a machine translation (MT) in the process of translating texts from Catalan into Spanish, by analyzing two basic kinds of texts and from the point of view of linguistics, syntactic, and lexical approaches that will highlight the pros and the cons of using this tools. The tools analyzed are Google Translator, a statistical machine translator, and LucySoftware and Apertium, which both are rules-based translators. All the translation options will be seen with the original text and a human-made translation in order to compare when needed. The results shown will emphasize the need of a professional translator even though some of the tools are quite good at specialized texts.
