  • Resum

This essay is born out of two main reasons: the opportunity to study and translate Bill Manhire’s work, one of the most relevant figures in New Zealand poetic scene, and the professional challenge and opportunity it represents, since his work has not been translated into Spanish yet. Therefore, this essay seeks to fulfil the following objectives: first, to establish a theoretical framework in order to obtain the necessary academic background regarding the theory and practical approach on poetic translation, taking into consideration the work and investigation of several authors that have worked on this topic. Secondly, based on the knowledge obtained through the first objective, to analyse Bill Manhire’s oeuvre to settle some basic considerations about his writing style and cultural background. This analysis on the author allows for a selection of poems that exemplify the stages of his poetry and its most distinctive features. After settling a theoretical framework on poetic translation, both for the author’s work and in general, every selected poem is analysed in detail, paying attention to individual cases and translation difficulties. Based on this analysis, the whole anthology is then translated into Spanish.
