The processes of words formation are a question that interests terminologists and translators, but also any language professional, because the lexicon is constantly incorporating new units and adapting itself to the reality so as to respond to recent needs. /nThis paper is an analysis of the data manually extracted from the loan words retrieval of /nthe 207 and 208 numbers of the Catalan magazine Time Out Barcelona, a weekly /nleisure time and cultural supplement of the ARA newspaper. The purpose of the study is /ngoing into the loan words topic in depth, as well as drawing some conclusions about the /ntype of borrowed forms and their treatment. The criterion used to establish if a word is a /nneologism is the lexicographic criterion and the exclusion corpus is composed of the Diccionari de la llengua catalana and the Gran diccionari de la llengua catalana. /nAltogether 94 borrowed forms have been extracted and then sorted in tables from different points of view. It is observed that the great majority of these units are nouns, /nthat they usually come from English and have not been adapted to the Catalan linguistic /nsystem, that they generally respond to stylistic and expressive reasons, that some words are also neological terms in their origin language, that most of them belong to the subject field of music or gastronomy, and finally that the tendency is to write them in italics. We argue that journalists need to think about what language model they want to disseminate and that they should try to achieve a lexical balance between loan words and alternative Catalan proposals.
