  • dc.description.abstract A presidential election campaign offers a very interesting opportunity to analyze the /n/npolitical discourse that each candidate defends. Coinciding with the French presidential /n/nelection 2012 we have carried out a study that will show the real message that /n/npoliticians express when we go beyond the surface of their discourses. Our TFG work /n/ncenters the attention on the election programs from the fourth best positioned candidates /n/nat the moment of the first round presidential election last 22nd April, Jean-Luc /n/nMélenchon, François Hollande, Nicolas Sarkozy and Marine Le Pen. Therefore our /n/ncorpus is based on the part their programs devote to immigration. Taking into account /n/nthat each candidate has chosen a different format to show the program: a letter, a single /n/nparagraph or a group of them, an essay; the analyze has been adapted to every one. For /n/nparagraphs we have focused the attention on smaller units and for the letter and essay on /n/nlonger ones. As a result, we have identified different intended uses of text structures; /n/npronouns; verb forms; terminology; subject appearance or disappearance; rhetorical /n/nfigures etc. that provide candidates with the chance to pronounce their real ideology /n/nabout immigration. Finally, we get to the conclusion that for most of the candidates, /n/nimmigration seems not to be a problem but an excuse to declare or not their ideology, to /n/npoint an opponent as the real trouble or to show off as the unique leader to face Europe. /n/nThis model of work could be considered in other domains.
