  • Abstract

It is widely known that translation is a tool that enables us, translators, to convey a message from one language into another language, making it comprehensible for a target audience. Translation does not only happen between a foreign language and a/nmother tongue or between very distant languages, it often occurs between close languages such as Catalan and Spanish, which is precisely what this paper is about, a translation from Catalan into Spanish of the book Formentera, passa a passa per les/nvies públiques along with a glossary. It is a challenging book to translate given the fact that it contains poems, proverbs, maritime and land terminology used mostly in Ibiza and Formentera, etc. The aims of this project are on the one hand, to translate as/nmuch specialised terms as it is possible and on the other hand, to make a translation bearing in mind that the target audience will be wider in comparison to the one from the original book. Apart from a translation and a glossary, in which a context and a/ndefinition of the most specialised terms will be provided, this paper contains an analysis section as well, where the difficulties encountered during the translation process are briefly detailed and explained. This paper presents some equivalences for concepts that are usually preserved in the source language, contributes to increase the Spanish bibliography about the history of Formentera and to the target language itself, since it provides some neologisms.
