Les desfilades de moda com a espectacle artístic interdisciplinari: una Gesamtkunstwerk del segle XXI

Abstract

In 1870, Charles Frederick Worth –an English couturier– organized a small event to introduce his new collection of dresses to a few of his customers. A hundred and fifty years later, the four main Fashion Weeks –Paris, New York, Milan and London– move huge amounts of money and cause a stir around the world. But how did these first humble fashion shows from the beginning of the 19th century, who consisted only of some models moving about a small catwalk, become the magnificent show they are today? In this paper we will argue how the most talented artistic directors and designers have adapted every other artistic discipline into their fashion shows, making them a form of total artwork.
