Resum
This study examines the intersectional and gendered acculturation experiences of Chinese student migrants in Spain, focusing on the varied roles of social media plays for them. Through a qualitative analysis of in-depth interviews with 10 participants, notable differences were identified in how male and female students adapt to the Spanish social landscape and use social media. While social and economic pressures within China drive female students to view studying abroad as an escape from traditional gender roles, male students prioritize more career advancement, encountering distinct social and racial challenges. Furthermore, both genders use social media for information and networking, but female students utilize these platforms in particular for emotional support, and male students tend to use social media more for practical purposes. This study provides valuable insights in adopting gender-sensitive approaches in academic and policy frameworks, to better support the acculturation of international students.Descripció
