This paper empirically analyses the effect of low-skilled immigration on the share of young adults (between 25 and 34 years old) with tertiary education in Spain during the first decade of the 21st century. During this period Spain experienced an unprecedented immigration wave, going from less than one million immigrants in 2000 to almost six million in 2010. Using data from 2000 and 2010 at provincial level, the obtained results suggest a negative effect of low-skilled new-comers on the share of people who obtain high levels of human capital, which is mainly explained by women’s outcomes.
