La atenuación por medio del marcador discursivo conversacional como en el español de Chile

Abstract

El presente trabajo tiene por objetivo analizar el uso del marcador discursivo conversacional como en su función de atenuante en el español de Chile con el fin de, por una parte, determinar si su uso con esta función puede vehicular otras funciones pragmáticas que actúen en calidad de instrucciones de segundo nivel y, por otra, establecer si el uso atenuador del marcador como varía según las variables extralingüísticas sexo y procedencia geográfica. Para lograr estos objetivos, se han analizado 1.268 casos, con sus respectivos contextos, en los que el marcador como es utilizado por hablantes chilenos para atenuar su discurso. Estos casos han sido extraídos de 24 entrevistas sociolingüísticas que forman parte de un corpus oral de español de Chile recopilado en el proyecto Fondecyt El voseo en Chile. El análisis realizado y los resultados de este trabajo permiten concluir que la atenuación por medio del marcador como puede vehicular, en calidad de instrucciones de segundo nivel, aproximación, ejemplificación, introducción de cita, retardación y cortesía, funciones que contribuyen a interpretar el sentido completo de los enunciados. Así también, el estudio ha permitido establecer que existe variación en el uso del marcador como en función de atenuante en relación con las variables extralingüísticas sexo y procedencia geográfica.This research aims to analyze the use of the conversational discourse marker como in its hedging function in Chilean Spanish in order to, on one hand, determine if its use with this function can convey other pragmatic functions that could act as second level instructions. On the other hand, this study expects to stablish if the hedging use of the marker como varies according to the extralinguistic variables sex and geographical provenience. In order to achieve these aims, 1,268 cases, with their contexts, in which the marker como is used by Chilean speakers to mitigate their discourse have been analyzed. These contexts have been extracted from 24 sociolinguistic interviews that are part of a spoken Chilean Spanish corpus compiled in the Fondecyt project El voseo en Chile. The analysis carried out and the results of this research allow to conclude that hedging with the marker como can convey, in the role of second level instructions, approximation, exemplification, introduction of reported speech, retardation, and politeness, functions that contribute to interpret the thorough meaning of the statements. Also, the results allow to stablish that there exists variation in the use of the marker como in hedging function in relation to the extralingüistic variables sex and geographical provenience.
