• dc.description.abstract Durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial, se multiplicaron las enfermedades de tipo mental de los soldados expuestos al combate. Las autoridades estadounidenses intentaron dar respuesta a esta realidad, desplegando un amplio programa de atención psiquiátrica, y algunos documentales dieron cuenta de ello. Let There Be Light (John Huston,1946) fue uno de ellos; pero su representación de los soldados enfermos topó con la censura de las autoridades, que prohibieron su exhibición. Como respuesta, aparentemente, autorizaron la producción de otro documental: Shades of Gray (Joseph Henabery, 1948). El presente texto analiza la forma narrativa de las dos películas, su representación de los soldados con enfermedades mentales, y establece semejanzas y diferencias, para explorar cómo acaban proyectando un mensaje sensiblemente distinto.

Les autoritats estatunidenques van intentar donar resposta a aquesta realitat, desplegant un ampli programa d'atenció psiquiàtrica i alguns documentals se'n van fer ressó. Let There Be Light (John Huston,1946), va ser un d'aquests documentals; però la seva representació dels soldats malalts va xocar amb la censura de les autoritats, que en van prohibir l'exhibició. Com a resposta, aparentment, van autoritzar la producció d'un altre documental: Shades of Gray (Joseph Henabery, 1948). El present text analitza la forma narrativa de les dues pel·lícules, en la seva representació dels soldats amb malalties mentals, i estableix similituds i diferències, que acaben projectant un missatge sensiblement diferent.
• dc.description.abstract During World War II, mental illnesses suffered by soldiers exposed to combat skyrocketed. The US authorities sought to respond to this reality, deploying an extensive psychiatric care program, and some documentaries reported on this. Let There Be Light (John Huston, 1946) was one of them; but its depiction of sick soldiers met with censure by the authorities, who banned its reproduction. In response, they apparently authorized the production of another documentary: Shades of Gray (Joseph Henabery, 1948). This study analyzes the narrative form of the two films, through their representation of soldiers suffering from mental illnesses, and establishes similarities and differences, to explore how they end up conveying a significantly different message, despite their similar argumentation.
