This paper addresses the question of dismissals due to business reasons in Canada. As a liberal market economy, Canada does not restrict the freedom of employers to dismiss employees for business or economic reasons. It also imposes few procedural requirements when conducting such dismissals. The major protection for workers in this situation is that they are entitled to notice of termination or pay in lieu of notice.
