This PhD thesis draws the constant tension line between international conflicts and humanist values resulting from Western comic books published during 20th Century. The dissertation adopts a novel and daring multidisciplinary approach based on the theory of international relations and humanist thought developed by philosophical, social and legal scholars. The research covers two different and thoroughly related contents. Firstly, it tackles international struggles such as armed conflicts, revolutions, decolonization and genocide. Secondly, it analyses various manifestations of modern humanism through comic books: the rule of law as a source of government action, judicial review as a fundamental right, democracy and free elections and human rights. References to human rights will be systematized according to the European Convention of Human Rights.

Esta Tesis Doctoral intentará analizar, desde un novedoso y atrevido enfoque multidisciplinar, el tratamiento que el cómic occidental ha deparado a la constante línea de tensión existente entre el conflicto internacional y los valores humanistas durante el pasado siglo XX.
Apoyándose en la dogmática del estudio de las Relaciones Internacionales y en el sentido social, filosófico y jurídico del pensamiento humanista, el trabajo tiene la intención de abarcar, desde esta clave estética, dos bloques ...
