  • dc.description.abstract Old industrial factories in main metropolitan cities have been converted into cultural centers in the past two decades. Such remodeling processes started in the 1960s, 70s, and 80s in Europe but have constituted official cultural policies since the 1990s. The present article analyzes these transformations taking Tabakalera. International Centre of Contemporary Culture (Donostia-San Sebastian, Spain, 2016) as a starting point. The main concepts and issues discussed include: the relationship between art and production, the concept of “art factories”, and the expansion of disciplinary modern spaces beyond the traditional working sites.
