- dc.description.abstract This article focuses on the study of two contextualized images within Catalonia’s process of independence in order to analyze the role of the visual tradition in contemporary political scenarios. The presence of emotions and pathos in some symbolic images linked with the October 1 referendum brings up to date the intellectual legacy of Aby Warburg and his notion of Pathosformel, as applied to the study of contemporary visual culture and Internet memes
