Abstract

In this project we aim to create a 3D audio stereo upmix system with the purpose of producing a more immersive listening experience. To do so, we use an approach which segmentates the direct and ambience components of an audio file, using various factors and assumptions. To create the immersive effect, we make use of Head Related Impulse Responses (HRIRs) from both dummy heads and human subjects. The process output is a stereo file containing a recreated binaural scene of the original stereo sound. Finally, we perform a qualitative subjective evaluation of the different methods, based on listening tests preferences.
