Revolting Rhymes: análisis y propuesta de traducción de Cinderella, de Roald Dahl

Abstract

El género del cuento siempre ha estado presente en la sociedad, viajando entre culturas e idiomas, dejando tras de sí una serie de enseñanzas. Con el tiempo, este tipo de literatura ha sufrido una evolución de manera paulatina de acuerdo a los diversos momentos históricos. Como consecuencia, encontramos que La Cenicienta, un cuento tradicionalmente folclórico, cuenta con muchas y variadas versiones con objetivos, enseñanzas y valores igualmente diferentes. Roald Dahl elaboró su propia versión y empapó en ella su característico sentido del humor, tan cercano al niño. Fue, desde luego, una versión innovadora no solo por el formato, sino también por el mensaje. Tan solo dos años después, Miguel Azaola tradujo el texto al castellano. En su traducción reflejó la intención del autor original de manera verdaderamente acertada, lo que sin duda tuvo que suponer un reto. No obstante, desde Azaola ningún otro traductor ha elaborado una revisión o traducción del texto.

The genre of short stories has always been present in society, traveling between cultures and languages. Throughout time, this type of literature has evolved gradually in accordance with diverse historical moments. As a result, we find that Cinderella, a traditional folktale, has been adapted to numerous different versions, each with their own distinct objectives, lessons, and values. Roald Dahl created his own version and soaked it with his characteristic childlike sense of humour. It was, of course, an innovative version not only because of its format, but also because of its message. Only two years later, Miguel Azaola translated the text into Spanish. In his translation he reflected the intention of the original author in a truly accurate manner, which undoubtedly had to be a great challenge. However, since Azaola, no other translator has produced a revision or a translation of this text.
