AI tools in research practice: opportunities and challenges

Abstract

Artifcial intelligence continues to evolve at a rapid pace, reshaping not only technological landscapes but also the ways we engage with knowledge creation and dissemination. From enhancing creative workfows to revolutionizing data analysis and decision-making, tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini have demonstrated the potential to redefne educational and research practices. Alongside these advancements, however, come critical questions about reliability, ethical implications, and the potential biases embedded in AI applications. How do AI tools afect the integrity of scientifc processes? Can these technologies empower researchers to achieve greater efciency, or might they inadvertently introduce new challenges? These are some of the questions addressed by the presenters at this year’s Meta-Research Conference, MERE 2024.
