Abstract

Since 2000, thousands of proteorhodopsins (PR) have been identified from marine prokaryotes expanding their known phylogenetic range, environmental distribution and sequence diversity. The creation of a curated Proteorhodopsin Database (PR_DB) consisting of around 13.000 PR sequences worldwide has been the base of this project. All the collected data was organized by over 100 parameters to perform the comparisons as much detailed as possible. Additionally, a BLAST search against this new Database was implemented too, allowing comparisons with outsider sequences. In summary, we offer the first integrated Marine Proteorhodopsins Database as a web server, a valuable resource for the scientific community with interest to explore the diversity and distribution of PR at global scales as well as to uncover potential novel proteorhosopsins.
