La chica, los ratones y la calabaza: la metamorfosis histórica de la mujer made-over de Hollywood

Abstract

Si bien su preponderancia se consolida hacia finales del siglo pasado en las teen movies y las chick-flicks, la narrativa de la makeover femenina puede rastrearse en las primeras épocas del cine de Hollywood, una herencia que reclama tanto en influjo del relato de Cenicienta como el del mito de Pigmalión. Dadas dicha longevidad y perseverancia, el presente trabajo procura identificar las metamorfosis que ha experimentado la misma representación de la “mujer transformada”, comprendiendo al nuevo milenio como vehículo para la redefinición de la travesía de la heroína ante la “democratización” del milagro de la makeover por parte de los reality shows.Even if its preponderance was strengthened at the ends of last century thanks to teen movies and chick-flicks, the female makeover narrative can be traced to the first eras of Hollywood cinema, an inheritance that reclaims not only the influx of the Cinderella story but also of the Pygmalion myth. Given such longevity and perseverance, the current piece will try to identify the metamorphosis that the very representation of the “transformed women” has undergone, understanding the new millennium as a vehicle for the redefinition of the heroine’s journey, facing the “democratization” of the miracle of the makeover driven by reality shows.
