Item type: Item , Decoding news media relevance and engagement through reputation, visibility and audience loyalty: a scoping review(Taylor & Francis, 2023) Castells-Fos, Llúcia; Pont Sorribes, Carles; Codina, LluísThe sustainability of the news media is a priority for democratic societies; yet, in the hypercompetitive digital world, they are losing relevance and face the forbidding challenge of public disengagement as trust in the news wanes. Boosting media relevance and engagement are critical in this quest for sustainability. Still, there are clear opportunities to enhance their specification. We seek to illustrate how they can be operationalised by fostering three of the industry’s key dimensions: reputation, visibility and audience loyalty. The first two dimensions are explicitly related to relevance, while the third enables us to be unequivocal when addressing the multifaceted concept of engagement. To operationalise these dimensions, we first perform a scoping review of reports published by the industry’s think tanks and, then, categorise the best practices they recommend. Three critical issues emerge from this exercise: (1) the careful management of staff and resources to meet the demands of digitalisation, (2) the strength of the ties between reputation and loyalty, and (3) the powerful relationship between visibility and organisational size. Since then, it has become an international benchmark for ‘artivism’ conveyed through hip-hop culture, with high-impact initiatives such as the Graffitour, which—until the pandemic arrived—promoted community tourism and circular economy as an alternative way of life in this marginal neighbourhood, victim of violence of all kinds. The name ‘Casa Kolacho’ is a tribute to a rapper killed in 2009 in the war between drug ‘combos’ after the Pablo Escobar era. This conflict dates back to 2002, when President Uribe’s Operation Orion, carried out by paramilitaries and law enforcement, triggered an escalation in state violence justified with the targeting of guerrilla groups and resulting in hundreds of civilian deaths and disappearances. In response to these repressive policies, as well as to criminal gang violence, the new generation of Comuna 13’s rappers joined together using music and art as weapons against (political, structural, daily and symbolic) violence in the neighbourhood. Para empezar, se introduce tanto el objetivo general—desarrollar un modelo renovado para el análisis de las bandas juveniles transnacionales en la era global— como los objetivos específicos. Asimismo, se presenta la metodología del proyecto, que parte de una revisión sistemática de la literatura histórica sobre las pandillas juveniles; para superar el centrismo norteamericano dominante a través de una perspectiva criminológica. Para ello, se plantea una investigación etnográfica multisituada y móvil, que explora las experiencias en las que las pandillas han actuado como agentes de mediación, así como las barreras que han bloqueado estos intentos. To do this, I begin by describing five experiences of research on the field, which correspond to different contexts and types of gangs (from territorial gangs in post-war Spain to current transnational gangs). Next, I present the three phases of fieldwork -entry, permanence, and exit-, and different research techniques used in these investigations: oral history, newspaper analysis, participant observation, focus groups, in-depth interviews, life stories, ethnographic video, surveys, social network analysis, and digital ethnography. Las jóvenes participantes fueron seleccionadas de un proyecto sociocultural conocido como la Orquesta de Cuerdas del Centro para la Inserción Social. A partir de entrevistas a profundidad y un trabajo de relato autobiográfico, las jóvenes reconstruyeron sus historias permitiendo identificar cuatro resultados relevantes: los contextos de violencia en los cuales viven sus infancias, las motivaciones y significados de la pandilla para las jóvenes, la violencia y los roles de género que experimentan continuamente y el encuentro con el arte como una práctica de reexistencia que les permite resignificar su vida.Item type: Item , Failed emancipations: youth transitions, migration and the future in Morocco(MDPI, 2022) Feixa, Carles, 1962-; Sánchez García, José; Premat Katz, Celia; Hansen, NeleSeveral authors have highlighted the importance of marriage as a social marker that alters the social categorization of individuals and their relationships from youth to adulthood, according to the cultural construction of the life course in Arab countries. This article analyzes the interaction between the socio-political framework (structure) and the capacity for individual action (agency) in the context of biographical experiences for achieving emancipation in Morocco. This perspective responds to different authors’ demands to include young people’s subjective approaches in the analysis process. This study is guided by the following questions: What capacity do young Arabs have to decide the orientation of their life trajectories? Which factors (cultural, family, socioeconomic, educational, etc.) generate young people’s expectations regarding their transition to adult life? En 1990 publicó un libro seminal, No nacimos pa´ semilla, basado en testimonios de jóvenes pertenecientes a pandillas, a partir de un proyecto impulsado por la Corporación Región. Durante la etapa posterior, participó como miembro de la sociedad civil en diversas iniciativas de paz y reforma urbana, siendo elegido alcalde de Medellín en el periodo 2008-2011. La presente entrevista, fruto de una larga conversación que mantuvimos con él en noviembre de 2019, traza la evolución de las bandas juveniles durante las tres últimas décadas en Medellín, considerando a los jóvenes como victimarios y como víctimas, pero también como agentes de transformación social, y aportando sugerentes reflexiones sobre el juvenicidio y las maneras más eficaces de mitigar sus daños.Item type: Item , El hiphop como forma de resistencia frente al juvenicidio: la experiencia de Casa Kolacho(Centro de Estudios Avanzados en Niñez y Juventud, 2022) Feixa, Carles, 1962-; Hansen, NeleEl artículo aborda una de las facetas del hiphop como cultura juvenil: su dimensión de movimiento social y cultural protagonizado por jóvenes de sectores subalternos. Para ello se analiza el caso de Casa Kolacho, un centro de arte y cultura situado en la Comuna 13 de Medellín, que abrió sus puertas en 2013 como culminación de la toma de conciencia de los jóvenes del barrio contra la violencia ejercida por agentes estatales, paramilitares, guerrilleros y grupos criminales. El texto se centra en el testimonio de Jeihhco, uno de los impulsores del centro, cuyo relato repasa el papel del hiphop como una forma de resistencia frente al juvenicidio, usando la música y el arte como una estrategia contrahegemónica de expresión de «hacer más ruido que las balas», según las palabras del protagonista.Item type: Item , Presentación: Juvenicidios: una mirada global(Centro de Estudios Avanzados en Niñez y Juventud, 2022) Muñoz, Germán; Feixa, Carles, 1962-El artículo introduce el monográfico sobre los juvenicidios, presentándolos como un fenómeno global. Para ello propone declinar el concepto en plural, poniendo poner de manifiesto la diversidad de las raíces, derivas y respuestas del/al fenómeno. Tras hacer un resumen del origen del término y de las investigadoras pioneras sobre el mismo, se centra en la coyuntura actual, marcada por los efectos del estallido social en Colombia y la publicación de los informes de las comisiones de la verdad en México y Colombia, que incluyen la denuncia de los asesinatos perpetrados en Ayotzinapa en 2014 y en Cali en 2021. Por último, se introducen los artículos incluidos en el monográfico, que analizan diversas expresiones de juvenicidio en Colombia, México, Brasil, Argentina, Ecuador, España y Marruecos.
