Rodrigo Alsina, Miquel, 1955-Medina Bravo, Pilar, 1966-2017-08-282017-08-282016Rodrigo-Alsina M, Medina-Bravo P. A reflection on identities, culture models and power. Journal of Intercultural Communication. 2016; 40:[23 p.].1404-1634http://hdl.handle.net/10230/32710We reflect on interrelationship patterns between cultures and identities, first focusing on what we mean by culture and then analysing four cultural models -- monocultural, multicultural, intercultural and transcultural and their impact on identity construction. Pointing to the dangers of the monocultural model that promotes essentialist and homogenizing identity classifications, we discuss the specific weight of national identity in the multicultural paradigm. We also describe the fundamental characteristics of the intercultural perspective and the view of identities understood as a result of cultural hybridization. We conclude by considering a proposal for a transcultural perspective.application/pdfeng© Journal of Intercultural Communication http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=cms&AN=114689736&lang=es&site=eds-liveA reflection on identities, culture models and powerinfo:eu-repo/semantics/articleMonocultural modelMulticulturalismInterculturalismTranscultural modelIdentityHybridizationinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess
