This is why the task of journalists should entail the responsibility to command the language in order to be a good model for society. Nevertheless, if we listen to the radio it does not always appear to be the case. The objective of this work is to establish to what/nextent the main radio station in Catalonia, RAC1, has a correct usage of language. To do so we have focused on sports, which constitute one of the leading formats in the station. We have conducted a syntactic, morphological and lexical analysis of broadcasts aired between January and March 2016 by the main RAC1 sports programmes: 100 Metres, Primer Toc and Tu Diràs, which has allowed us to discover the strengths and weaknesses of their language. From the analysis of this small sample/nwe can state that the language usage of RAC1 sports programmes is far to be a model. We have found serious grammar mistakes, mostly due to the influence of Spanish over Catalan, that should not be made by language professionals with an audience of thousands of people every day. This is given by an insufficient intervention of the linguistics professionals and the journalists lack of Catalan proficiency.
