The cultural context we live in is not the most exhilarating in our history, especially due to the presence of axiological relativism. With the interest in discussing the cultural, educational and sports values that guided the most sublime ideals of man, we analysed the unifying principle of classical culture: the Greek aretê. By recovering and reflecting on the ideas, ideals and values contained in this pedagogical model, we hope to offer inspiration, reflection and axiological guidance to teachers, particularly those who are linked to sport. To carry out this study, we carried out a historical journey in order to verify and discuss the cultural and educational links of the aretê from the perspective of authors from different times. For this, we were guided by classic writers, others who are recognised exponents in the interpretation of classical literature and, triangulating and updating, by authors who have recently reflected on this subject related to education, culture and sport. We emphasise that much of our considerations had sport as one of its pillars, the reason being the fact that we consider it as one of the most important guardians of the values of the aretê.Aretê: Ecos na Educação e no Desportoinfo:eu-repo/semantics/article
