La presente investigación estudia la forma en que los diarios españoles El País, El Mundo, La Vanguardia y Ara manejaron la imagen de los menores de edad durante un determinado periodo de
tiempo del llamado procés catalán. ¿De qué manera los medios representaron la imagen de los
menores?, ¿se respetaron los códigos deontológicos tanto nacionales como internacionales de
protección al menor durante la cobertura? Estas son las preguntas que encontrarán respuesta en
esta investigación.
Para llegar a unas conclusiones sólidas se han analizado 1.690 notas periodísticas publicadas entre
el 12 de septiembre y el 13 de octubre de 2017, uno de los momentos más importantes en la
historia reciente del procés catalán. La metodología utilizada es el análisis de contenido tanto
cuantitativo para identificar las notas periodísticas que se refieren a menores, como cualitativo
para analizar el contenido de éstas y su rigor ético. Los resultados muestran de qué manera los
medios se adhieren a los 4 principios fundamentales del periodismo: la verdad, la justicia, la libertad y la responsabilidad.
El valor añadido de esta investigación es su originalidad, ya que hasta el momento no existen otras
investigaciones respecto al mismo tema lo cual permite se generen nuevas líneas de investigación
a futuro.

The present investigation studies the way in which the Spanish newspapers El País, El Mundo, La
Vanguardia and Ara handled the image of minors during a certain period of time of the so-called
procés catalan. In what way did the media represent the image of minors? Were the national and
international deontological codes of child protection during coverage observed? These are the
questions that will be answered in this investigation.
To reach solid conclusions, 1,690 media articles published between September 12 and October
13, 2017, have been analyzed, one of the most important moments in the recent history of the
Catalan procés. The methodology used is both the quantitative content analysis to identify the
journalistic notes that refer to minors, as qualitative to analyze the content of these and their
ethical rigor. The results show how the media adhere to the 4 fundamental principles of journal-
ism: truth, justice, freedom and responsibility.
The added value of this research is its originality, since until now there are no other researches on
the same subject which allows new research lines to be generated in the future.
