dc.description.abstract This paper aims to find a pattern in the evolution of altruistic and cooperative behaviour whilst distinguishing across different types of schools in Spain. In specific, we design a controlled laboratory experiment by running the standard dictator game and a public goods game in a public and private ("concertada") high school. Using a sample of 180 students, we compare 12 and 16 year old children to distinguish the evolutionary pattern and test if there is a significant change by the type of schooling system. Interestingly, evidence from our data highlights that altruism levels rise throughout public high-school education whilst it falls in private high-schools. On the contrary, cooperation levels are relatively stable in public high-schools but rise in private high-schools.
dc.description.abstract Este trabajo trata de encontrar un patrón en la evolución del comportamiento altruista y cooperativo distinguiendo entre diferentes sistemas educativos en España. En concreto, diseñamos un experimento controlado mediante un juego del dictador y un juego de bienes públicos en un instituto público y en uno privado (“concertado”). Usando una muestra de 180 estudiantes, comparamos adolescentes de 12 y 16 años para distinguir la evolución y testar si hay algún cambio significativo debido al tipo de educación. Nuestros datos evidencian que los niveles de altruismo suben durante el proceso de educación en un instituto público, mientras que bajan en el privado. Por el contrario, los niveles de cooperación son relativamente estables en institutos públicos, mientras suben en los institutos privados.
