Leaver, Kyle
This ethnographic research study aims to investigate the phenomenon of desensitization among broadcast media workers in South Florida. Specifically, the study will be conducted at three television stations in the region. The objective is to gain an in-depth understanding of the experiences, coping mechanisms, and potential consequences of continuous exposure to traumatic events in the broadcast media industry. Through participant observation and in-depth, focused interviews, the study will explore the extent of desensitization among media workers, the factors contributing to its development or
mitigation, and the impact on emotional well-being and professional attitudes. Additionally,
the research will examine the role of organizational support systems, workplace culture, and individual coping strategies in relation to desensitization. Findings from this study will
provide valuable insights into the experiences of media professionals in South Florida,
contribute to the existing literature on desensitization in broadcast media, and inform
interventions and strategies to support the well-being and ethical practices of media workers in similar contexts.

Bănică, Dragoș
As fewer studies have focused on the impact on users' well-being as a result of social
comparison and its potential associations with users' purchasing behavior, the current thesis
addresses Instagram users' perception towards the phenomenon of social comparison with
influencers and celebrities, its effects on well-being, and the correlations between
respondents' self-esteem levels when making a buying decision, purchasing behavior, and
demographics. To achieve the objectives, quantitative data were collected through an online
survey. Part of the data was later statistically analyzed using R Studio to seek possible
correlations. No association relations were found between Instagram users' self-esteem level,
their purchasing behavior and their demographic particularities. Although, the descriptive
analysis revealed that Instagram could trigger, through social comparison, negative feelings
in its users, and they are aware of this, but consider that social comparison negatively affects
others' general well-being more than their own.

This paper proposes an edutainment experience about Pompeii using augmented
reality (AR). Previous research indicates that AR is a suitable technology to implement
in experiences. AR can be used for edutainment purposes and for collaboration
in-between visitors through its immersive affordances. In collaboration with the IDEAL
Digital Arts Center for the development of the final project for the MA “Digital Culture
and Emerging Media”, an experience with an emphasis on visitor interaction and
immersion was designed for the space of a white box. The interactions were developed
according to the STEAM Model (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and
Mathematics) which is used for the development of critical thinking and new
technologies. Furthermore, the En/Ex Model, which comprises engagement and
expressive approaches of activity design theory, was used to balance different
transdisciplinary approaches. Additionally, a documentation analysis was combined with
practice-based research and a visitor evaluation to achieve optimal results.

Furthermore, the researcher aims to investigate how Ramadan entertainment fits into the broader media landscape of Egypt and how Egyptian media stakeholders perceive the paradigm shift caused by social media. The study employs a qualitative methodology using two main methods of data collection: semi-structured in-depth interviews and thematic social media content analysis. The findings contribute to deeper understanding of the dynamics within Ramadan entertainment and the audience.
Additionally, this study provides recommendations for media practitioners on leveraging Ramadan entertainment to address social justice issues and promote responsible media practices. Overall, this research expands the existing knowledge base on Ramadan entertainment in Egypt, shedding light on its cultural significance, the influence of social media, and its potential for driving societal reform. The findings have broader implications for the media landscape and can guide future Research exploring the complexities and implications of Ramadan entertainment on Egyptian society.
